On Sunday December 13th, the stage was set, the microphones checked, the actors costumed, and Calvin Church presented our annual Christmas Pageant. This year's performance was The Surprising Christmas Pageant by Dennis Hartin.
With only two week s to prepare, the Sunday School and Youth of Calvin put on an incredible Pageant. Every performer, from 3 to 23, knew their part inside and out, delivered each joke humoruously, and insured that the whole congregation enjoyed the true meaning of Christmas.
I want to extend a huge congratulations and job well done to all the children and youth who were involved. You all did an AMAZING job. I would also like to make a special thank you to the parents who came to rehearsals and assisted with getting on costumes and running lines. Finally, a whole hearted thank you to the congregation, who without their love and support, the Pageant would not have been the same. Merry Christmas Everyone! God Bless!
For many people, Christmas is the most wanted and the most enjoyable time of the year. We do a lot of exciting things which lift up our spirits. We decorate our homes. We are excited about finding what should we pick for Christmas for those whom we love. I really enjoy wrapping Christmas gifts and I hope many of us share with me this excitement. To decorate the Christmas tree is always one of my biggest excitements: to sit around the tree, to watch the decorations, to admire the lights, and sing Christmas Carols with family and friends. Having everyone home at Christmas and sharing gifts – I think for all this is very special.
It’s time to start making preparations. But with all the preparation, please take time to prepare your heart for Christmas. May your Christmas be a blessing. I would like to share with you three simple things in the light of the Bible, to be prepared for Christmas, in order to please our Lord Jesus Christ, the child of Bethlehem.
1. Share with others what Christmas means to you.
You have to tell others that Christmas is Jesus’s birthday, that person’s birthday, who had the biggest influence on this world. You have to share that, on the first Christmas, God did something fabulous for us, and those who have nothing to do with Jesus so far need to hear this. You have to always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. Remember the shepherds. The angels were telling them that the Lord was born in Bethlehem. They had a chance to experience the Lord in the manger. If you, too, would like to meet Jesus during this Christmas season, please join us at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Kitchener where we are talking about Christ and with Christ. Do your first step: come, listen, and think about what you hear. Then the Holy Spirit will start to work in you, so you, too, should experience God’s gift a very personal way. Please come, make the first step, open your heart, come, listen and rejoice with us. May you become an ambassador of God, an angel to others who still don’t see the Christmas light.
2. We should be realistic when we buy gifts.
The commercialized world should not influence us and our egos when we buy gifts. Our gifts should not have dollar values. Not the dollar value of the gift, but our love should be more important when we buy, give and receive gifts. The goal of our giving is to bring happiness in the lives of whom we love. May your gifts show your unmeasurable love to those with whom you will share your Christmas. May they feel and experience that, with your gifts, you are giving them your heart as well. In this way, your gift will bring real happiness to those you love. Remember that your heart will make your gift the most precious gift. Please give something to those whom you love because our gifts are symbolizing God’s love, who loved us and, at the first Christmas, gave us the most amazing gift in Jesus Christ.
3. Find enough quiet time to prepare yourself for Christmas.
Please take time to prepare your heart for Christmas. In this rushing world, make time to be in silence, sing Christmas carols, talk to your family members, plan together, and pray, so your hearts may be ready for Christmas to receive God’s gift. May the Lord bless you with sufficient quiet time and peace in order to be ready for Christmas.
