The Session

The Session oversees all aspects of the church, including support of the Christian Education, Mission, Outreach, Stewardship and other Committees of Session and the congregation. All members of the session: participate in one or more of the above committees; prayerfully support the minister; maintain appropriate confidentiality and support decisions of Session; and develop a relationship with members who are included in a district given to them, to have regular contact with such members, particularly at communion time and at other times to show support/care/congratulations. It includes the minister and elders, women and men, elected by the congregation and ordained to this office.

The Board of Managers

The Board of Managers is comprised of 15 members who meet approximately eight times per calendar year. The members of the Board of Managers are elected at the Annual meeting. Members are divided into three sub-committees which each have a chairperson to oversee the committee’s business:
The Property Committee is responsible for the maintenance of our building and property. The Finance Committee is responsible for the finances of the church. The Rental Committee handles all rental requests and booking for space within our church building (with the exception of the Sanctuary, the Session is responsible for this area of the church).  Requests for rental space can be directed to rentalchair@calvinchurch.ca. The Board will review each request on an individual basis as we receive them. A signed contract is required by the renter and a member of the Rental committee. While the Board is not responsible for fundraising, the Board traditionally has held events to raise money for general expenses of the Church, (e.g., garage sales, dinners, time & talent auction).  The Board also has a donation jar and takes up a collection and donates the money raised to help out causes around the church (e.g., potato drive, youth group functions). For any inquiries for the Board of Managers you can direct them to the boardchair@calvinchurch.ca or call the church.

The Worship Committee

The Worship Committee gives support to the minister, music director and other participants in worship. The committee's responsibilities include organizing the usher list, decorating the worship space, and providing organization for communion services.

The Christian Education Committee

The Christian Education committee oversees discipleship for people of all ages. They recruit and support Sunday School teachers and Nursery caregivers. The committee supports Youth group, events for children, and Bible Study. The committee provides ongoing leadership with "Leading with Care", a program which helps our church to be a safe place for people of all ages.

The Pastoral Care Committee

The Pastoral Care Committee provides support and care to all of Calvin's people. Each month a prayer calendar is prepared to highlight events within the congregation and beyond; cards are sent to the sick and shut-in, parents of new babies, in celebration of special occasions, and those grieving the loss of a loved one; on request, meals can be provided to those returning home after a hospital stay; and a rose is placed on the pulpit to celebrate the birth of a member's child. Ongoing programs include the delivery of Christmas poinsettias to those sick and shut-in; at Easter and Christmas our college and university students are sent cards, along with a personal message from the minister; a Biennial Memorial Service is organized by the committee to remember those of our church family and their family and friends who have died; and the Committee also provides special events once a year like a Senior's Tea or an Education evening. The Pastoral Care Worship teams regularly lead worship services and hymn sings at five local nursing homes.

The Congregational Life Committee

The Congregational Life Committee leads events which encourage the growth of friendship in our church. These include the church picnic (2nd Sunday in June), the annual golf tournament (a Sunday in September) and the Corn Roast (a Friday in September). This committee is also responsible for The Clarion, our church newsletter.

The Missions & Outreach Committee

The Mission & Outreach Committee encourages the church and its members to support organizations and projects which reveal God's love in service to others. We are grateful to be part of outreach programs both locally and internationally. We support the ministry of our denomination through Presbyterians Sharing in our annual budget, and Calvin also partners with families in our community to co-sponsor refugees. Click here for the projects we support.

The Stewardship Committee

The Stewardship Committee encourages the congregation to see how giving is an essential part of a growing faith.  The Committee encourages the practice of Stewardship through short ‘Stewardship Moments’ during the service, bulletin announcements, and articles in the CLARION.  A fall Stewardship Campaign encourages members to prayerfully consider their annual givings by completing a Pledge Card and to consider using the Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR) program.  The committee encourages special givings on two Sundays per year (one in November and one in December), the proceeds of which help with the general expenses of the church.

The Personnel Committee

The Personnel Committee is responsible for the support of our church staff. This care includes matching a member of the committee to each employee. The committee is responsible for hiring staff (except the Minister) and carrying out annual reviews. This team has taken on the responsibility of implementing "Leading with Care", a program of the Presbyterian Church in Canada that helps our church to be a safe place for people of all ages.

The good news
